detraining of a sport dog & reintroduction to training after off-season

Recording of the webinar detraining of a sport dog & reintroduction to training after off-season

[webinar – online lecture with english subtitles + exercise plan]

keeping a dog in peak physical condition

It’s widely known that keeping a dog in peak physical condition throughout the entire year is not feasible. We believe that organizing activities in cycles, including a proper detraining phase (recovery phase), allows dogs to enjoy a longer and healthier sports career. Implementing a recovery break can be challenging, and poor planning may lead to injuries when returning to sport.

detraining protocol for sporting dogs

Over the past several years, we’ve been implementing different protocols for the recovery phase and the return to activity afterwards, and that’s exactly what I would like to share with you.

two perspectives

The content will be covered from two perspectives: the dog handler’s perspective (what we can do independently) and the physiotherapist’s perspective (what should be assessed, checked, and recommended for our patients).

webinar content

  • The importance of the recovery phase/detraining
  • The role of detraining within the annual training cycle
  • Setting clear goals for the recovery phase and post-recovery reintegration
  • Support during the detraining phase (supplementation, physiotherapy, manual therapy)
  • Example protocols for detraining and return to form for healthy dogs (when detraining is not injury-related)
  • Compensatory training and activities supporting canine athletes in popular disciplines (agility, frisbee, obedience, flyball, scent work)
  • Specific examples of exercises and training sessions to use during the return to sport – webinar participants will receive PDFs with example exercises and activity plans
